“10:1 So Meet us Half Way”
Those of you who have asked us to take an animal in this year will already know how difficult and frustrating it has been for us. We have a limited amount of space to board our cats, dogs, rabbits etc. Recently we have only been able to re-home approximately 20 animals a month but we have been able to re-home a lot more in better times. At the moment we have at least 10 animals waiting to come in for every 1 that is adopted.
We simply don’t have enough people coming forward to adopt. Normally, there is an adoption fee of £85 for a dog, £50 for a cat and £15 for a rabbit or £10 for a guinea pig. Animals are health checked, neutered, vaccinated and/or microchipped. We are very aware of the number of animals waiting to come in – especially as winter isn’t that far away and we want to avoid more unwanted pets being abandoned and left outside. We are worried that there will be more problems than we can cope with towards the end of the year.
We think that the only way to alleviate the current situation is to use some of our reserve funds to meet successful adopters half way. We will do this for the month of September. If you have a home visit and adopt in September, or if you already have a pass that is less than 3 months old and have not yet been to adopt we will meet you half way. This applies to all adoptions in September! Of course, the usual conditions will apply; you will need a home visit and you will need to satisfy our criteria but once you have the go ahead to adopt we will pay half the adoption fee.
